Zhongyuan Oilfield: A Super Large-Scale State-Owned Oil & Gas Enterprise Under Sinopec

Zhongyuan Oilfield is a super large-scale state-owned enterprise affiliated with China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec). It is widely recognized as the domestic oilfield with the most diverse oil and gas reservoir types and the most comprehensive technical systems in China’s petroleum industry. With complete industrial layout and mature technical capabilities, it plays a pivotal role in China’s onshore oil and gas exploration and development.

Development History and Resource Scale

First discovered in 1975 and officially put into full-scale development in 1979, Zhongyuan Oilfield has built three major oil and gas production bases, including the Dongpu Oilfield, the Northeast Sichuan Work Area, and the Inner Mongolia Exploration Area. It has newly acquired mining rights in the Southern North China region, covering a total exploration area of 18,400 square kilometers.

The oilfield boasts abundant energy reserves, with proven petroleum resources of 1.92 billion tons and natural gas resources of 5.14 trillion cubic meters, laying a solid resource foundation for long-term stable production and high-quality development.

Core Business and Industrial Advantages

Zhongyuan Oilfield owns a full-coverage industrial chain covering oil and gas exploration, oilfield development, petrochemical production, petroleum engineering technical services, gas storage operation and maintenance, oil and gas production logistics support, and public engineering services. It stands out as one of the most industrially complete, business-diversified, and earliest market-expanding oil and gas enterprises in China’s petrochemical industry.

By the end of 2024, Zhongyuan Oilfield had achieved remarkable cumulative production results, including 152 million tons of crude oil, over 170 billion cubic meters of natural gas, and more than 26 million tons of sulfur. It has built a 10-billion-cubic-meter underground gas storage peak-shaving center in North China and the country’s largest proton exchange membrane water electrolysis hydrogen production project, leading the green and low-carbon transformation of the domestic oil and gas industry.

Market Layout and Development Vision

Adhering to a diversified market development strategy, Zhongyuan Oilfield operates more than 300 external projects, with business coverage spanning 27 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across China and 9 overseas countries and regions.

Focusing on high-quality and sustainable development, the oilfield has formulated a clear long-term development goal: to build itself into a 10-billion-cubic-meter mixed natural gas producer, a 10-billion-cubic-meter gas storage operator, a 10-million-ton-level large-scale oil and gas field, and a first-class oil and gas company within Sinopec Group.

Honors and Comprehensive Strength

With outstanding technological innovation capabilities, standardized enterprise management and excellent social benefits, Zhongyuan Oilfield has won more than 200 provincial and ministerial-level or above honors and awards. The core honors include the National Energy Innovation Project Award of the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening Up, the Special Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, National Civilized Unit, National May 1st Labor Medal, National Model Enterprise with Harmonious Labor Relations, and National AAA Credit Enterprise. These honors fully reflect its strong comprehensive strength, technological competitiveness and excellent brand reputation in the petrochemical field.
