The Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has issued strategic arrangements for improving green and low-carbon development mechanisms and accelerating the growth of green low-carbon industries. In response to the national dual-carbon goals and the call for new quality productive forces, Sinopec Huazhong Chemical Marketing has firmly adhered to the path of green, low-carbon and high-quality development, actively undertaking the mission of industrial green transformation.
On September 2, with the full support and coordination of Sinopec Huazhong Chemical Marketing, Zhongyuan Petrochemical successfully produced domestically pioneering bio-based polyolefin products, making it the first manufacturer of bio-based polyolefins in China. This milestone achievement opens up a new development field for Sinopec’s green and low-carbon industrial layout.
Different from traditional fossil-based polyolefins, bio-based polyolefins take renewable biomass resources as raw materials, including plant fibers, wood, crop wastes, animal and plant oils, and other sustainable feedstocks. Through refined chemical reactions, these raw materials are converted into high-performance polyolefin materials. Featuring a lower full-life-cycle carbon footprint, bio-based polyolefins effectively reduce reliance on fossil fuels such as petroleum and coal and cut carbon emissions, presenting outstanding green and low-carbon attributes. Currently, global enterprises are actively researching, developing and iterating bio-based products to seize emerging sustainable market opportunities.
Launched in October 2023, the Zhongyuan Petrochemical bio-based polyolefin project received rapid responses from Sinopec Huazhong Chemical Marketing. The company immediately set up a professional marketing team and dispatched elite account managers to conduct in-depth domestic market research, laying solid market foundation for the official launch of the new green product.
In 2025, Sinopec Huazhong Chemical Marketing further accelerated the market layout of bio-based products. The team conducted on-site visits with downstream clients to accurately align procurement standards and product quality requirements. Regular production and application seminars were held to guide production optimization, ensuring the products fully meet market and customer demands.
In June 2025, Sinopec Huazhong Chemical Marketing obtained the official ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification), a globally recognized sustainable certification system. This authoritative qualification grants the company an international green pass for the marketing and trade of bio-based products, verifying the sustainability, traceability and low-carbon advantages of its bio-based industrial chain.
Building on the ISCC certification advantage, the company hosted China’s first domestic bio-based polyolefin promotion conference in July 2025. The event clarified industrial development directions, boosted market confidence, and promoted the standardized and large-scale development of China’s bio-based polyolefin industry.
Through rigorous market research, technical demonstration and production optimization, Zhongyuan Petrochemical has successfully manufactured six grades of bio-based polyolefin products, covering mainstream domestic bio-based polyolefin categories with comprehensive product applicability. At present, Sinopec Huazhong Chemical Marketing has established cooperation intentions with multiple downstream customers, and the new green products are entering the trial application stage for subsequent large-scale market promotion.
