Hosted by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) of the Hong Kong SAR Government and co-organised by China Hydrogen Alliance, the 2026 International Hydrogen Development Symposium was grandly held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from May 18 to 20. As a key participating enterprise, Sinopec attended the event as both a speaker and exhibitor, fully displaying its latest technological breakthroughs and industrial layout across the entire hydrogen value chain.
The symposium gathered over 1,000 top hydrogen experts and industry practitioners worldwide. Participants conducted in-depth discussions on Hong Kong’s strategic positioning and development advantages in docking with China’s 15th Five-Year Plan hydrogen energy development layout, covering multiple dimensions including policy formulation, technological innovation, capital investment and public popularization.
At its exhibition booth, Sinopec focused on showcasing landmark hydrogen projects and cutting-edge technologies, featuring the Au Tau Hydrogen Refuelling Station — Hong Kong’s first professional hydrogen refuelling station, as well as core achievements in green hydrogen and liquid hydrogen industries.
Through intuitive display panels, physical scale models and professional on-site explanations, Sinopec fully demonstrated its independent R&D strength and full-value-chain service capabilities covering hydrogen production, storage, transportation and application.
Many senior executives from Sinopec attended the event opening ceremony and visited the booth, including XIONG Xiaoyang, Sinopec Chief Representative in Hong Kong, WU Qinggao, President of Sinopec (Hong Kong) Limited, Frank Lam, Vice President, and LUAN Hexin, Vice President of Sinopec Star.
In the core keynote session, LUAN Hexin delivered a thematic speech titled An Overview of Sinopec's Hydrogen Energy Development. He systematically introduced Sinopec’s complete industrial layout throughout hydrogen production, storage, transportation and end utilization, and highlighted the company’s key progress and commercialization experience in green hydrogen and liquid hydrogen sectors.
At the roundtable forum hosted by Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF), Luan Hexin shared Sinopec’s mature mainland hydrogen operation practices. He put forward practical application solutions for promoting hydrogen energy vehicles in Hong Kong’s key scenarios, including public transportation, cold chain logistics, environmental sanitation and special engineering vehicles.
The symposium exhibited a full range of hydrogen-powered vehicles covering environmental services, logistics, engineering and commercial transportation, fully demonstrating the large-scale commercial application prospects of hydrogen mobility.
The star exhibit was the hydrogen-powered MPV operated by Sinopec (Hong Kong) Limited. As the only seven-seat executive hydrogen vehicle on-site and Hong Kong’s first commercially operational hydrogen-powered MPV, it achieves a major breakthrough in Hong Kong’s high-end hydrogen mobility market.
This commercial operation project verifies the excellent adaptability and operational reliability of hydrogen energy technology in high-end transportation scenarios. It provides a replicable and scalable practical reference for the Hong Kong SAR Government to implement the local hydrogen development strategy, effectively expanding the application boundary of hydrogen energy in Hong Kong.
During the symposium, Sinopec received delegations from the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and Hyundai Group at the Au Tau Hydrogen Refuelling Station. The delegations conducted in-depth inspections of the station’s operational mode, technical standards and comprehensive safety management system.
Focusing on hydrogen infrastructure construction, cross-border technological innovation and regional industrial coordination, Sinopec actively promotes multi-level international exchanges and in-depth cooperation across the whole hydrogen industrial chain. Relying on Hong Kong’s unique advantages as a global industry hub, Sinopec accelerates the integration of global hydrogen resources and boosts coordinated high-quality development of the hydrogen energy industry in East Asia and even the world.
Sinopec firmly undertakes China’s Dual Carbon strategic goals and promotes the enterprise’s second entrepreneurial transformation, continuously empowering Hong Kong’s green and low-carbon development. The joint participation of Sinopec Hong Kong branches and Sinopec Star has further consolidated internal hydrogen business collaboration, connected the enterprise with the global hydrogen value chain, and showcased Hong Kong’s core technological strengths in the hydrogen energy field.
In the next stage, Sinopec will leverage Hong Kong’s superior geographical and industrial strategic position to cooperate with upstream and downstream industrial partners in local hydrogen infrastructure construction, industry standard formulation and key project incubation. These layouts will drive the high-quality international development of Sinopec’s hydrogen business, support Hong Kong’s integration into national strategic development, and jointly boost Hong Kong’s carbon neutrality construction and the implementation of China’s Dual Carbon goals.
