On June 7, the FDPE unit of Sinopec Hainan Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd. shut down for scheduled maintenance after 639 consecutive days of safe and stable operation. It has set the first new single-cycle operation record among all similar domestic polyethylene units in the industry.
The FDPE unit adopts the independently developed multi-temperature zone gas-liquid phase polyethylene core technology of Sinopec. Since commissioning in 2023, the unit has successfully developed multiple high-end polyethylene grades, including PE-L M2750 and PE-L F181CC.
Polyethylene products manufactured by the unit are widely applied in agricultural mulch films, food packaging, anti-corrosion rotational molding and other scenarios. The booming output has driven clustered development of regional new material supporting industries and plastic deep-processing industries, bolstering the growth of new material sectors in Hainan Free Trade Port.
Facing technical bottlenecks including high raw material sensitivity, stringent process precision requirements and complex interlock control systems, the FDPE team carried out targeted technical research based on on-site production conditions, covering three core dimensions:
The unit launched full-lifecycle health management for core equipment, conducting regular condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. This proactive mechanism effectively avoids equipment failures and unscheduled shutdowns from the source.
Production staff proactively tracked downstream market demand and dynamically adjusted core process parameters. It broke the traditional single film-grade polyethylene production model and achieved stable mass production of high-melt injection materials and rotational molding specialty materials.
By tapping low-carbon operational potentials, the FDPE unit ranked second in comprehensive energy consumption indicators across all Sinopec subsidiaries in 2025. It achieved coordinated progress in safe stable production, product upgrading, efficiency improvement and low-carbon transformation.
Hainan Refining & Chemical built a closed-loop talent training system to support long-cycle unit operation:
Supported by the Dongpo Master Studio and on-site engineer lecture platforms, immersive on-site teaching, regular operational reviews and practical emergency drills are carried out continuously, forming solid talent reserves for unit stable operation.
The 639-day operation milestone marks a new starting point rather than an endpoint. Going forward, Hainan Refining & Chemical will prioritize safety as the bottom line, operational efficiency as the core, high-quality development as the goal and technological innovation as the driving force. The company will further enhance market competitiveness in the chemical sector and accelerate the development of high-value-added polyolefin flagship products.
