Full Name: Sinopec Petroleum & Chemical Corporation Guangzhou Branch (Short Name: Sinopec Guangzhou Company) Founded on June 18, 1973, formerly known as Guangzhou General Petrochemical Works. As a directly-affiliated super-large refining and chemical enterprise under Sinopec Group, it is a core petrochemical base within Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and reputed as "Pearl of Southern Guangdong".

Located in Huangpu District, Guangzhou City, the plant covers a total site area of 4.45 million square meters and is adjacent to Daya Bay deep-water port in Huizhou. The company has around 3,800 employees with original fixed assets exceeding CNY 30 billion.

Production Scale & Operating Performance

In 2023, the plant processed 11.039 million tons of crude oil, produced 202,400 tons of ethylene and achieved a net profit of CNY 2.148 billion. Cumulative tax contribution to the state has surpassed CNY 208.992 billion.

Equipped with 150,000 DWT and 300,000 DWT deep-water crude terminals, it stands as a key domestic base for imported crude processing and National VI clean fuel manufacturing in South China, with finished goods covering South China, Hong Kong and Macau markets. It has won multiple honors including National Advanced Collective, National Green Factory and National Intelligent Manufacturing Demonstration Factory.

Development Milestones

1973: Former Guangzhou General Petrochemical Works established, filling the gap of large-scale integrated refinery in South China. 1978: Official commissioning, kicking off the development of South China’s refining & petrochemical industry. 1990s: Phase II construction completed to form a comprehensive fuel & chemical complex capable of processing both domestic and imported crude oil. 2006: 10-million-ton refining expansion project put into operation, lifting annual crude capacity to 10 million tons and qualifying as an extra-large refinery. 2010s: Fuel quality upgrading and environmental retrofit completed to realize full National VI clean fuel production with ongoing intelligent and low-carbon transformation. 2021–2027: Safety, Green & High-quality Development Renovation Project with total investment of CNY 9.02 billion under construction to build a dual demonstration base for clean energy and industrial upgrading. Future Plan: Full commissioning of the upgrade project by 2027 to optimize gasoline-diesel output ratio, boost ethylene & propylene yield and develop high-purity hydrogen, targeting a world-class green & intelligent refinery.

Core Business Layout

1. Refining Business

With 12.75 million tons per annum crude refining capacity, the facility produces National VI gasoline, diesel and jet fuel with annual clean fuel supply over 8 million tons. End products include automotive fuels, marine fuels and lube base stocks for South China, Hong Kong and Macau downstream industries.

2. Petrochemical Business

220,000 tons/year ethylene plant manufactures three resin series: PE, PP and PS with 70+ grades widely used in packaging, home appliances and automotive sectors. A 350,000 tons/year PP unit delivers premium petrochemical feedstock for diversified downstream conversion.

3. Auxiliary & Utility Facilities

Supporting utilities include 299MW captive power station, 700km industrial pipeline network and 300,000 DWT deep-water dock. Complete water, steam, power supply and wastewater treatment systems enable circular economy and eco-friendly production.
