Sinopec Great Wall Energy and Chemical: 800kt/a Coal-to-Olefins Demonstration Project Launched

The construction of Sinopec Great Wall Energy and Chemical Co., Ltd.’s 800,000 tons per annum (kt/a) upgraded coal-to-olefins demonstration project has officially commenced. The construction site is located at Dalu Industrial Park, Jungar Banner, Ordos City. All large-scale construction machinery has been deployed on-site, with various engineering vehicles conducting coordinated operations in orderly arrangement. Preparatory work including site leveling and construction plan refinement is being carried out efficiently to support full-speed subsequent construction.

Project Core Investment, Scale and Construction Schedule

The project involves a total investment of 23.788 billion RMB and covers a land area of 4,964 mu. Its designed core annual coal-to-olefins output is 800,000 tons, with detailed product breakdown as follows: 450,000 tons of polypropylene, 350,000 tons of polyethylene, and 100,000 tons of EVA/LDPE. The project is scheduled for full completion and commissioning in September 2028.

The construction scope covers main process works, storage and transportation facilities, public utilities, auxiliary facilities and environmental protection facilities. Specifically, 12 sets of core production units will be built for main works, including air separation, coal gasification, shift conversion, acid gas removal, refrigeration and compression, methanol synthesis, sulfur recovery, methanol-to-olefins, loop polypropylene, gas-phase polypropylene, polyethylene and EVA/LDPE units.

Corporate Background of Sinopec Great Wall Energy and Chemical

As a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), Sinopec Great Wall Energy and Chemical serves as Sinopec’s core professional platform for coal chemical strategic layout. It focuses on transformation and upgrading of modern coal chemical industry and has built a complete and mature modern production capacity system.
