Sinopec Group Chongqing Chuanwei Chemical Co., Ltd. is located in Changshou District, Chongqing. Formerly known as Sichuan Vinylon Works, it was one of the four major chemical fiber projects introduced with the personal approval of Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai in the 1970s. The enterprise was fully incorporated into Sinopec in 1983, making it Sinopec’s sole and China’s largest natural gas chemical manufacturer.
The company runs 27 secondary entities, including 8 operation departments, 5 business centers, 12 functional departments, a research institute and Chongqing Chuanwei Technology Co., Ltd., alongside 4 active joint ventures. It manufactures over 160 products across 8 major categories, which are sold nationwide and exported to more than 60 countries and regions including the US, EU and Southeast Asia.

Its polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) production technology ranks world-class; as a supplier to many internationally renowned corporations, its PVA export volume has topped domestic rankings for consecutive years. Its vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer emulsion (VAE) technology leads the domestic market, with its products certified as China Environmental Label Products for 21 straight years. The enterprise has led or participated in formulating 2 international standards, 32 national standards and 17 industrial standards.
Adhering to a green development strategy, the company fully fulfills its social responsibilities as a riverside central SOE and lives up to its state-owned enterprise accountability. In 2022, it became one of China’s first batch of pilot enterprises for Zero-Waste Factory development. In May 2023, it completed and commissioned Southwest China’s largest hydrogen fuel cell hydrogen supply project to support the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Hydrogen Corridor.
