Shanghai Lianheng Isocyanate Co., Ltd. (SLIC) is a world-class specialty chemical manufacturer jointly funded by BASF, Huntsman, Huayi Group, GPCC and SCAC. It is jointly controlled by BASF and Huntsman. All production facilities are situated in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP).
SLIC operates an integrated methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) production plant with a core crude MDI production capacity of 590,000 metric tons per annum (ktpa). Beyond crude MDI, the company manufactures a full range of by-product and supporting chemical raw materials, including chlorine, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrogen chloride and methanol. All listed products serve as essential upstream feedstocks for polyurethane manufacturing.
SLIC focuses on upgrading crude MDI manufacturing technologies and driving the high-quality development of China’s domestic polyurethane industry. The company actively promotes technology promotion and product application across multiple downstream end sectors, covering construction equipment, automotive manufacturing, commodity packaging and footwear production.
Driven by growing global and domestic market demand for MDI, SLIC has launched two targeted capacity expansion and resource recycling projects with independent technical suppliers.
This recycling project adopts proprietary technology licensed by Huntsman. The designed production scale and output specifications are as follows:
The CMDI expansion project applies core technical solutions from BASF. It includes three matched supporting production facilities, with formal product and by-product output parameters clarified below:
Upon completion of the HCL recycling and CMDI expansion projects, SLIC’s total cumulative investment will reach 5.93003 billion RMB, and the company’s registered capital will be adjusted to 1.976677 billion RMB.
