In June 2026, BASF-YPC Company Limited (Nanjing Integrated Site) announced the successful introduction of bio-based naphtha for the first time, marking a landmark breakthrough in renewable feedstock substitution. The sustainable raw material has been officially delivered for industrial application in the company’s ethylene cracking unit.
Bio-based naphtha refers to a green chemical feedstock produced from renewable biomass resources. It features chemical properties highly identical to conventional fossil-based naphtha and can serve as a direct drop-in replacement. Its raw materials are derived from non-food biomass sources, including waste cooking oil, residual animal and vegetable oils, and agricultural waste.
BASF-YPC passed the on-site audit conducted by TÜV NORD, an authoritative German third-party certification body, on May 15, 2026. The company was officially awarded the ISCC PLUS international sustainability and carbon certification on May 26, 2026.
Covering two categories of bio-based feedstocks (bio-based naphtha and biomethane) and four finished products, this certification lays a solid foundation for BASF-YPC to further expand its sustainable product system.
“With the official certification obtained, the first batch of bio-based naphtha has been arranged for logistics transportation and will be officially applied in our ethylene cracking production,” said a senior representative from BASF-YPC. This milestone achievement strengthens the company’s green supply chain capabilities and enriches its sustainable product portfolio.
Moving forward, BASF-YPC will continuously scale up the introduction and industrial application of bio-based feedstocks, including biomethane. Aligned with market demand, the company will launch more bio-based products step by step and steadily accelerate its green and low-carbon transformation.
In April 2026, Bright LyondellBasell Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (BLYB) completed berthing, unloading and official commissioning of its first batch of bio-based naphtha. This initiative represents China’s first large-scale industrial application of bio-based feedstock in petrochemical production, setting a critical benchmark for domestic low-carbon chemical manufacturing.
